In direct definition, teaching is about giving knowledge of certain subject to a group of learners/students. While learning is about receiving and gaining knowledge by being taught by an educator, studying and experiencing the learning knowledge. However, each teaching and learning are specialized with specific characteristics to have a successful learning process.
What are the characteristics of Effective Teaching?
Teaching wouldn't be effective without having enough knowledge about the subject and being organized and managing the class in a well manner. What is more important is the way of presenting the material to students and how to make them engaged in the classroom, by using effective and updated tools that improves teaching-learning process and improves students skills at the same time. For example, one of the most important and effective way in teaching is using hands-on student learning where students are active and learn by doing by themselves. In addition, to relating each topic to real life examples so students will be able to connect theoretical knowledge to practical knowledge.
Furthermore, varying in teaching strategies, models and tools is also a good way to have an effective teaching. For example, using stories, videos, photos, posters, interactive whiteboard, games, etc...
On the other hand, building a good relationship with students, showing them some care and giving them feedback on their work also have an effective result in the educational process.
What about Learning characteristics?
Although teachers have a big effect in the teaching- learning process, but also students have an effective role in this process. Where learners should be disciplined, organized in the class and interested in gaining new knowledge. Always students should follow classroom and teachers rules to have an effective learning.
Participating in the class, asking- answering questions, doing assignments and all the assessments is another effective strategy students could follow during the educational process; this kind of assessments are for students' benefit and in this way they are improving their thinking and practical skills.
In conclusion, educators are facilitators for learners to develop essential skills and knowledge and they influence the quality of learning for all students. And the educational process couldn't be completed without the cooperation between both educators and learners.
